ImageThe Chestnut Avenue Center for the Arts is Marshfield's newest venue for performing arts, visual arts, and literary arts. Located in a historic church building in downtown Marshfield, it's a great place to enjoy concerts, plays, poetry readings, recitals, art gallery shows and workshops.

You'll also find individual artists' and musicians' studios, classes, jam sessions, and much more. Whether your tastes are for classical, folk or popular art forms, this is the place to connect with the arts --- and creative people --- in Marshfield!

Our Mission
To create a lively center for the community to enjoy the arts in all forms.

What’s under your umbrella?Image
Chestnut Center allows local people to connect with a variety of arts resources ... and with each other through mutual enjoyment of the arts. It extends a "broad umbrella," which includes visual arts, performing arts and literary arts in styles ranging from popular to classical to ethnic and folk.

How did it get started?
The non-profit Chestnut Center was founded in summer of 2003. Sparked by the efforts of one local couple, various arts lovers joined the grass-roots cause to transform the old church building into a community arts resource. As it turned out, the need was real and a shared vision took off like wildfire. Chestnut Center exists today due to broad community support.

How is the Center different than other Arts Centers?
“You make it happen at Chestnut” is more than a slogan... it’s a description of how we do business.

We function as an "arts incubator," rather than as a programming entity. In other words, we offer space and nurture to arts activities; but, like a business incubator, we do not operate the activities ourself. Instead, we open our doors to community members to step forward to establish programming. As a result, we encourage maximum community participation and "ownership."

This concept has resulted in a great diversity of activity at the Center. Things we never could have predicted have happened. With no programming committee to limit choices, enthusiasts for any art form or style can find a public forum. The only limits are their creativity and energy!

Can I rent space or sponsor events?
Yes, let us help you make it happen! Our goal is to meet the needs of local artists, performers, teachers and audiences. We have publicity resources, facilities, and networking ability to other local people in the arts. Just contact the Chestnut Center office at 715/389-8999 for information.

If you wish to put together a concert series or promote an event, we can help you with that. You can promote or sponsor events. You can rent space for teaching, rehearsing or performing. You can rent art studio space or display space. Meeting rooms are available for community or business groups. In addition, our beautiful “Chapel on Chestnut” is available for weddings and the Ballroom for receptions.

Who funds the Center?
Donations, grants and user fees provide the funding to keep the center open. We try to keep costs low by involving volunteers and using donated supplies when possible.
